Meet our December Guest Designer....

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

(mad) Mel Pizzinga.

I love Mel's funky style and no one has even made me laugh out loud reading a blog as often as Mel does.  This gal is hilarious, a wonderful person and has an awesome scrapping style!! I'm so pleased to have her with us as Guest Designer!!

I sent Mel some questions to answer to help us get to know her a little better.  No editting here, just had to paste it exactly as she wrote it....too funny

1. Tell us a little about you.

On a brisk winters morning in 1973, Essendon Hospital was graced with the most beautiful child they had ever seen.... a couple of weeks later I was born in the same hospital... the second child of four in as many years to a hairdresser and an automotive engineer. Life growing up was always lots of fun, happy and noisy... even for the middle child. Tall and lanky - that all went wrong once I hit puberty and everything grew out, down and spotty... I never recovered.

So I studied hard and after 8 long years earned my Naturopath degree, I married my teenage sweetheart and soon had 3 monsters of my own... and a dog... and a white picket fence...livin' the dream.

People describe me as an overweight, tall daggy woman who cant dance... and I'm happy to agree!! Others just try to avoid me...

2. Tell us a little about your style
I don't really have a certain style, just whatever is lying on the floor that smells clean....OH.. scrapping style... I dont really have a scrapping style either. I like lots of layers and busy pages, lumpy and bumpy - just like me. I tend to let the photo guide me as far as the feeling I want to portray in the page.

3. What is your favourite product?
Definitely patterned paper - I have such a big stash but most of it I cant use because I love it too much... I just love looking at it!! and I love collecting journalling cards and "bits" to fill my pages ... and anything vintage... and anything Echo Park, October Afternoon, Cosmo Cricket... OK I will stop now

4. Where do you find the greatest inspiration for your layouts?
I am a serial blog stalker... I have my favourites and get alot of inspiration from online galleries... and again from the photos I take

5. What size do you prefer to scrap?
Always 12x12. I am envious of the girls who scrap in other sizes... one day I will branch out... maybe this is my year...

You can see more of Mel's work here
Head over to Challenge Heaven and play along for a chance to win some great prizes!

Welcome Kylene Hickey to the Challenge Heaven Team

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Hi!!! My name is Kylene, mostly known as Kye. I am married to my best friend Scott and we have been blessed with three beautiful children - 2 boys and 1 princess (Regan 8, Kaleah 7, and Beau 3 1/2). I am a busy working mum who is heavily involved with the kid’s school and sports, so it leaves me very little time to scrap these days. 5 years ago we moved from Sydney to the Gold Coast, and whilst I miss my family and friends there, we love the relaxed lifestyle and wouldn't move back.

I would describe my scrapping style as minimalist - quick and easy, using White Space on my layouts, a no fuss kind of gal, but having said that my style is ever developing and changing. I will try anything at least once.

Journaling is important to me, as our memories, good and bad, tend to fade and get distorted over time. If you don't see any journaling on my layouts it is either hidden behind the photo or on the reverse of the layout.

We love to go back and look at the old layouts and read the journaling to remind us of conversations and the funny things we say and do. It might sound strange, but when my layouts bring tears to my husband and kids eyes, then I am happy.

At the moment I enjoy playing with glimmer mist, and loving the October Afternoon, Echo Park and My Minds Eye pp ranges.

One product that features on most of my layouts is mini alpha stickers. I find them great for sub titles and journaling.

My kids, our family and life are my greatest inspiration but inspiration for my layouts can be found everywhere. Especially clothing. Yes I am guilty of buying some kids clothes for the scrapping potential it offers.

When mojo is awol I love recipe scraps (or blind scraps). All I need to do is follow the instructions and I have a fantastic layout completed. Sketches are another great way to kick start the creative juices.

I definitely prefer to scrap 12x12. I am not much into Off The Page creations, but I have been known to make a few items for gifts, some of which sit 1/2 finished and end up getting tossed because I am never happy with them.

Pop over to Kye's blog and have a look at some of her gorgeous layouts!

Jess Mackenzie.

Jess has recently joined Challenge Heaven and has blown me away with her amazing doodling, masking tape application and funky layouts!!  I couldn't help but ask her to be our guest designer.  I love how different her layouts are to what are commonly shown in scrapbooking magazines and on most design teams.

Here is a little about Jess and her wonderful layout for the September Sketch Challenge.

The Stamp Spot - A Fabulous September Sponsor

The Stamp Spot – bringing international stamp companies to Australia

The Stamp Spot is an online store based in the Perth hills. While the store mostly stocks rubber and acrylic stamps and stamping products, we have an ever growing line of scrapbooking papers and products.

Owned by Marcia Pringle, the store started in July 2009 hoping to bring to Australian customers the many and varied stamps that are available from overseas. With the growth of blogging, so many stampers here were able to experience the wow factor of other companies stamps, many not available here or the cost on currency conversion made them expensive. We’ve been successful in bringing to Australia My Favorite Things, The Greeting Farm, Stampavie, Unity Stamps and more.

In addition to these wonderful products, I have a taste for most things Basic Grey, Cosmo Cricket, Sassafras Lass and October Afternoon – these are just some of the manufacturers products you will find instore. There may not be a massive range in store, but they are very competitively priced. We offer a flat postage cost of $6.95 (free post on orders over $75.00) – small orders will be refunded the difference in postage costs; it’s all about getting the products to you at a low cost.

For those in Perth – please feel free to contact The Stamp Spot to arrange a shopping date by appointment. There is a ‘shop’ as such, and any given week can see quite a few customers pop past for a look and a buy.

Contact Us by email at info@thestampspot.com.au or to make an appointment please call Marcia on 0428 94 54 54

Sponsor - Old Favourites

Friday, August 13, 2010

Here is a little about Sam and her store

My grandmother has always fostered my love of craft. No matter what project I would dream up she always had an endless array of tidbits to use. You never knew what treasures could be unearthed.

In an age where everything is mass produced nothing compares to the 'Old Favourites' of yesteryear.

We specialise in creating themed collections full of vintage products and also stock a variety of unique embellishments. New themed collections are being added every week and if you can't find one to suit we are happy to create one for you. I love adding pieces of nostalgic flair to my scrapbook pages and want to share with you the 'Old Favourites' of the past for your craft projects of the future.

Pop over and check out the lovely pieces Sam has put together.

Meet our August Guest Designer...

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Samantha Hauzer.  I've personally been stalking Sam's blog for a while and always been amazed at how gorgeous her layouts are.  This gal has some talent!! I'm so pleased to have her with us as Guest Designer as well as a Sponsor!!

Sam owns and runs Purple Pumpkin Crafts and has generously donated a wonderful prize for us this month!

Here is a little about Sam and her wonderful layout for the August Sketch Challenge.

I'm a single mum of two little rascals. Jack is 9 and Emily is 7. Scrapping is definitely my sanity, and 'me' time, and is a huge part of my life these days. I teach classes at two of my local shops, and have just started a little business of selling handmade embellishments. I discovered scrapping 6 years ago and I still obsessed with it!

I don't really know that I have an actual style, or if I do, I don't know what it would be called. I do like lots of layers, and I love to make my own embellishments. And I love to cut bits and pieces out of the papers too.

My favourite product would have to be patterned paper, as you can do just about everything with it. I ddefinitely take inspiration from it. As soon as I see papers that I love, my mind starts ticking over with ideas, and I usually make my layouts and then find photos to match it. Sometimes I'll even do a layout, and then go and take photos to go on it if I don't have any photos that suit it.

I love to scrap in a 12 x 12 size. It's definitely my comfort zone, although I have done a few layouts in 8.5 x 11 and 6 x 12 too.

You can see more of Sam's work here

Here is a little about Donna and her store

Hi I'm Donna, owner of Mystical Scrapbooks. I'm married and a SAHM for my son, and I have been scrapping for about 7 years. When my son started school I wanted to return to work, but also wanted to be available for school runs etc. Quite by accident I found Mystical Scrapbook up for sale, and it was the perfect fit, so I took over in Oct 2008.

I strive to maintain high standards in customer service with fast delivery and great prices. If there is a product I don't have, and you need it, please contact me and I will source it in for you, no request is too big or too small. My goal is to ensure that my customers are happy. Sponsor - Handmade by Suzanne

Monday, June 7, 2010

Here is a little about Suzanne and her store.

Handmade By Suzanne, owned by Suzanne McGregor began as a card making business selling to friends, family and local children’s markets. In November I stepped into the role of coordinating my local scrapbooking club and part of our club is a ‘shop’ selling all the goodies you might run out of on the day. A moment of insanity and Handmade By Suzanne turned into an online retailer and is now enjoying it’s 6th month in operation and I absolutely love ‘going’ to work each day. I have 2 young boys and have always wondered what kind of home based business I could have which allowed me to be a SAHM but also filled the working need in me. I began scrapbooking and card making just 4 short years ago and would never have believed where it might take me!

Handmade By Suzanne has all your favourite scrapbooking and crafting brands at reasonable prices. New stock is arriving weekly and we recognise that customers want the latest and greatest which is where a lot of our time is spent researching to keep up with it all.
We offer customer service beyond your expectations with a policy of “customers for life”.
Orders are shipped within 24 hours of payment received and in most cases same day. We recognise being Perth based may be a disadvantage but it means we can keep our prices low and we work extra hard to ensure we are your store of preference.

Free postage on orders over $50 (Australian Addresses Only) and a flat rate of $5.00 postage on all other orders. Small orders are welcome, we will only charge what it costs us to send so e-mail for a quote otherwise we will offer to refund where the postage will be less.

Visit our gallery and be inspired by the fantastic work of our Design Team. We offer monthly sketch competitions drawn at random so don’t be shy, everyone has a chance to win.

Layout of the Week!

Saturday, June 5, 2010
